Several Dalit organisations, including student wings, continued their high voltage protest against Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s remark against the community, in Mysore, on Monday.
Some of the protesters ransacked the shop selling Ramdev’s Pathanjali Chikithsalay products, near Jaganmohan Palace, and on JLB Road, near Hardwick School. The protesters demanded that Ramdev be arrested immediately and that the “illegal properties” acquired by him through various means, without paying proper taxes, be seized.
Rally
Dalits from Ashokpuram took out a mega rally across the city, holding placards condemning the Yoga guru’s remarks.
The rally, which commenced at Ballal Circle, moved through JLB Road, Ramaswamy Circle, Chamaraja Double Road, Sayyajirao Road, D Devaraj Urs road and ended at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
They burnt the effigy of Ramadev and hurled footwear at his posters.
Boycott
Under the leadership of Dalit Vidyarthi Okkuta, Dalit students, attached to the University of Mysore, too showed their ire against Ramdev.
Students, who boycotted the classes, took out a silent procession from their Hostel to the Round Canteen in Manasagangothri.
Another Dalit organisation in Vidyaranyapuram blocked the road for sometime and later submitted a memorandum to Assistant Commissioner Basavaraju.
Police personnel deputed in the Deputy Commissioner’s office had a harrowing time controlling the mob that had gathered in large numbers at the DC office.
