<p>The Davangere City Corporation has bagged Swachh Survekshan-2024-25 award for its commitment towards keeping the city clean. Davangere, is the lone city in Karnataka that has been selected for the award under the category - Promising City Ministerial award. The award was presented in New Delhi on Thursday. </p><p>Speaking to DH, Davangere City Corporation, Environment Engineer Basavanna said, "It has motivated us to do better in the coming years. Several factors including segregation of waste collected from households into wet and dry, transportation of waste, processing and management of waste, maintenance of public places like parks, lakes and bus terminals were considered while selecting the city for this award."</p><p>Besides, factors like Swachha Gruha Kalika Kendra constructed on the premises of the park at JH Patel layout in the city where wet waste is converted into compost, workshop on community composting and waste processing unit near Avaragolla on the outskirts of the city were also taken into consideration. He is glad that segregation of waste has crossed 90% in the city and even residents of slum areas are doing it. Around 170 tonnes of waste is generated per day in the city, he explained.</p><p>He also pointed out that waste collection from every household on a daily basis will be more proactive in the coming days after purchasing more vehicles and hiring more staff. This would prevent people from dumping waste in vacant sites. There is still scope for improvement, he added.</p><p>He also made it clear that a team of officials from the Centre had visited the city as part of field inspection earlier this year and had collected feedback. </p><p>A ten-member representatives of Davangere city corporation including Commissioner Renuka, environment engineer Basavanna, Assistant Executive Engineer Jagadish S R and others were in New Delhi to receive certificate and a memento from Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar. </p>
