Depositors whose money has not been refunded by the Sangolli Rayanna Cooperative Society and others of the same group under Anand Appugol laid siege to his residence at Hanuman Nagar here on Thursday, demanding refund of their deposits.
The depositors, in large numbers, demanded that he refund the deposits made in the cooperative societies.
The societies, headed by Appugol (also a filmmaker), owe hundreds of crores to the depositors. After the scam came to the fore, Appugol fled the city and was nabbed by the police in Mumbai. He was arrested and sent to judicial custody and has been out on bail.
There have been allegations that Appugol used the depositors' money for personal use and his businesses. The depositors also urged the government to ensure that the deposits are refunded.
