The court directed Singh to appear before it for cross-examination. It wanted to verify whether he directed the then Malleswaram Assistant Commissioner of Police Jitendranath to conduct an inquiry and submit a chargesheet against the accused.

Singh told the court he was the Commissioner of Police of Bangalore City when the incident took place and had ordered his subordinate officer ACP Jitendranath to head the investigation team, complete it and submit the charge sheet to the court.
