Don’t panic, take precautions to curb TB: Lakshmi Priya

Zilla Panchayat CEO K Lakshmi Priya called upon the people to carry out united efforts in eliminating tuberculosis from the country.

There is no need for panic, but, the precautionary measures are must, she added.

She was speaking after initiating a rally on the occasion of World TB Day organised by the district administration and district Health and Family Welfare Department at the premises of Bal Bhavan in Madikeri on Tuesday.

In case of symptoms, one must immediately consult a doctor, Lakshmi Priya added.

District Health and Family Welfare officer Dr K Mohan said that Wayanad district in Kerala has been declared TB free.

“All must join hands in making Kodagu district free from TB. Regular medication cures TB. The surroundings should be kept clean,” he added.

Specialist Dr Ramachandra Kamath said that cough and fever persisting for more than two weeks and sudden weight loss are the symptoms of TB.

District TB control officer Dr A C Shivkumar said that 6,000 people are suffering from tuberculosis in the country and 600 people die due to the disease every day. TB spreads from one person to another.

A rally was taken out from Bal Bhavan to the district hospital. The rally passed through Squadron Leader Ajjamada Devayya Circle, Mangerira Muttanna Circle and General Thimayya Circle.

District surveillance officer Dr M Shivkumar and district Ayush Officer Dr Ramachandra were present.
