The department of higher education has issued a circular instructing private engineering colleges to refrain from charging full fee from students who wish to discontinue the course.
The department has also instructed private colleges to return the student’s original documents to them, in such cases.
After enrolling in an engineering college, students sometimes wish to leave the course due to ill health or for pursuing a different course.
Harassment of students
There have been reports of private colleges harassing students to pay the entire fee for the course and refusing to return their original documents.
The circular further instructs colleges to return the documents collected at the time of admission without delay and to not demand the entire fee.
