<p>Bengaluru: Bengaluru has seen a dry June, with the city receiving only 32.2 mm of rain throughout the month, as per IMD data.</p>.<p>This marked a 57% departure from normal, as the actual projection was 74.9 mm. Bengaluru Rural recorded 33.5 mm of rainfall, a 50% departure from normal, the data showed.</p>.<p>Dr N Puviarasan, Scientist 'F' and head at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru, attributed the shortfall to heavy rains in May.</p>.<p>"This is because the monsoon began earlier and there was a good amount of rainfall in May,” Puviarasan told DH.</p>.'Above normal' rainfall expected in July but states in northeast, east and parts of south likely to face lack: IMD.<p>“Now, the rainfall distribution is more towards the northern part of the country. However, a good amount of rainfall was seen in coastal Karnataka and the Ghat region — but not in the interior part of Karnataka, particularly Bengaluru, Chikkaballapur, Raichur, Kolar, etc.”</p>.<p>The scientist pointed out that mostly the eastern part of Karnataka had deficient rainfall.</p>.<p>"We are expecting rainfall over the south and north interior Karnataka the following month, towards the third week. For the next three to four days, coastal Karnataka and the Ghat areas will get the rainfall. Heavy rainfall alert is currently issued only for coastal Karnataka,” Puviarasan added.</p>
