DySP Handibag's constable brother hangs himself

Yallappa Handibag, a constable attached to the Kulgod police station in Gokak taluk, reportedly hanged himself on Thursday.

He was the younger brother of Kallappa Handibag, the deputy superintendent of police, Chikkamagaluru, whose suicide in July created ripples in Karnataka’s political circles.

Yallappa, 28, was found hanging in his rented home at Kulgod. Senior police officers said they were investigating what drove him to the extreme step. A case has been registered at the Kulgod police station.

Kallappa had committed suicide in a similar fashion at his wife’s maternal home at Murgod in Saundatti taluk after he was accused of being involved in a kidnap for ransom.
