'Empower through legal literacy'

Workshop on legal literacy for GP library superintendents

Speaking after inaugurating the legal literacy workshop for library superintendents of Gram Panchayat level at district library premises here on Saturday, the judge said that there were about 10,000 laws in the country and a modicum of knowledge of such laws could ensure one’s legitimate rights. Legal counsel hitherto confined to the rich in the society has now become accessible to the poor also following incessant efforts by Legal Aid Authority, Lavanyalatha  said.

Advocate M V Narayanaswamy spoke on Motor Vehicle Act. Another advocate K V Surendra Kumar delivered a lecture on Registration of Births and Deaths Act.

District Legal Aid Authority, District Bar Association, employees of district library and  Rural Library Supervisors’ Welfare Association had jointly organised the workshop.

President of Rural Library Supervisors’ Welfare Association R Narayanaswamy, chief librarian P Vishwanath, Jannaghatta Krishnamurthy and others were present.
