<p>Bengaluru: The Health and Family Welfare Department on Tuesday instructed Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust (SAST) to equip Maxillofacial Surgeons in Government Hospitals to perform cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries.</p>.<p>The SAST was told to conduct a gap analysis of government hospitals to identify & provide infrastructure and equipment for corrective surgeries.</p>.Karnataka: After two years, govt-run IVF clinics may be a reality soon.<p>Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common congenital anomalies affecting children in Karnataka. Surgical correction is essential for the physical, psychological and social rehabilitation of affected individuals. </p>.<p>However, there exists a gap in availability of adequately trained Maxillofacial Surgeons in Government Hospitals, particularly rural and underserved regions.</p>.<p>Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram is currently identifying cleft lip and cleft palate cases and are referring patients to private health facilities. Only around 20 procedures have been conducted under ABArK scheme in last 5 years.</p>
