The matter pertaining to the humiliation to Vijay Mores, former mayor of Belgaum began in the City on Friday.

More, along with another former mayor, Shivaji Suntikar, appeared  before the 8th Additional City Magistrate court and identified four attackers in this connection.  However the hearing was adjourned to May 12 after the counsel for the defence refused to cross examine a witness for refusal to speak in Kannada. Members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists had humiliated him for his pro-Maharastra stance. When the prosecutor called upon witness, Sunil Balekundri, former corporator, he said he can’t speak Kannada. But Prof B Basavaraj, counsel for the defence objected to it saying that he is deliberately avoiding speaking in Kannada.
