Five killed in collision

The accident occurred as the driver of a private bus, in his attempt to overtake a vehicle, hit the ambulance head-on. The ambulance was carrying the body of Gangamma from Bangalore. The deceased Maheshwari Bai (45) is the daughter; and Jayashree (35), Shankar and Umesh (both 20) are the grandchildren of Gangamma. All of them hailed from Aland taluk in Gulbarga district. The ambulance driver Adiveppa (24) was also killed in the accident, police said.

Gangamma was brought to Bangalore for the treatment of her heart problem. She did not respond to the treatment and died in the hospital. Her body was being shifted in the ambulance to her hometown for the last rites.

The impact of the collision was such that the ambulance was reduced to a heap of metal.
