Speaking at a meeting, he said there is a need to create an awareness to sustain total cleanliness campaign.

He called upon the officials to include students in the cleanliness drive. The district administration should also involve NGOs in the programme. There is a need to fix time bound to complete the programme. The Zilla Panchayat should issue guidelines to all the Gram Panchayats on cleanliness. Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers are responsible in implementing the programmes along with PDOs at the village level. The local elected representatives should be taken into confidence while implementing the programmes. He directed the officials to hold special workshop for the Gram Panchayat President and Vice-Presidents.  In a meeting on ban on plastics, he said plastic ban should be carried out as a campaign by including the students. The students should be made to create awareness on solid waste, use of toilets to their parents.

The Mangalore City Corporation has started creating awareness on solid waste management by including the students of Roshni Nilaya, M V Shetty College, Beasant College and SDM College.

The CEO directed the gram panchayat to identify land for constructing public toilet at Gundya on National Highway.

Deputy Secretary Shivarame Gowda, Chief Project Officer Nazeer, Jana Shikshana Trust Director Krishna Moolya and others were present.
