The Karnataka High Court has issued a notice to the Bidadi police while hearing a bail petition filed by Kampli MLA J N Ganesh who has approached the court seeking bail in an assault case against Hosapete MLA Anand Singh.

His counsel sought bail as he has to carry out campaigning for the upcoming Lok sabha election.

Ganesh is facing an attempt -to-murder charge for assaulting Anand Singh during a drunken brawl at the Eagleton Resort near Bidadi on January 20. Ganesh said that following the incident, an FIR was lodged based on Singh’s statement, naming him as the lone accused.

He has stated in his petition that the alleged brawl was a small drunken altercation and not an attempt-to-murder.

The petitioner added that it was actually Singh who had picked a quarrel with him late in the night.

The special court, which exclusively deals with criminal cases related to MPs/MLAs , had on March 25 rejected his bail plea.

The high court adjourned the hearing of the case to April 8.
