Gang kidnaps, loots man in Mudigere

A gang of six persons allegedly kidnapped a man and looted his valuables in Mudigere.

According to the police, coffee grower Mohammed Ibrahim (Monu) along with a woman had visited a court in Mudigere on March 11. When he was having tea in a canteen, a group of six persons allegedly kidnapped the duo in a car.

The gang members allegedly attempted to sexually harass the woman. As the woman started screaming, she was dropped from the car at Mudremane at Mudigere.

The suspects later took Ibrahim to K C Road in Mangaluru and physically tortured and assaulted him at a house. They took away Rs 15,000 cash, a gold chain and a finger ring from him and later demanded Rs 2.85 lakh and three cheque leaves from his son.

After transferring the amount to the account of the kidnappers, the gang members contacted Ibrahim's son and took away three cheque leaves and also threatened to kill him if the incident was brought to the notice of the police. Ibrahim was let free on March 13.

Ibrahim on reaching home fell sick and was admitted to MGM Hospital in Mudigere.

The police have booked a case against six persons. DySP Chandrashekar, Inspector Raghu and PSI Ramesh are probing the case.
