<p>Mangaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader has written to Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara demanding an inquiry into the "inaction" of police officials in connection with hate speeches.</p><p>In his letter, he said, recently, the coastal region of the state has been witnessing hate-filled speeches, provocative statements, and the spread of socially disruptive rumours on social media, "all of which are creating a dangerous situation that seriously threatens public peace and harmony".</p>.Karnataka HC orders notice to Lokayukta police in plea against arrest of man in extortion case.<p>“What is particularly noteworthy in this context is that some police officials in the past failed to take appropriate action against such hate speeches, provocative remarks, and socially disruptive rumours on social media, either due to helplessness or negligence. In contrast, the current police officials are taking appropriate and swift action against hate speech,” he said.</p><p>"Had the previous officials taken timely action, one or two religion-based murders and violent incidents in the coastal region could possibly have been prevented. While previous police officers in Dakshina Kannada had acted promptly and diligently in cases like robbery, drug trafficking, and other anti-social activities, it raises the question — why did they not take appropriate action against hate speeches? What were the reasons behind the inaction? A proper investigation should be conducted,” he demanded.</p><p>"Such an investigation will help strengthen internal peace, harmony, and public trust in our state." </p>
