<p>Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday granted conditional interim bail to Ningappa Savant, who was arrested by the Lokayukta police in an extortion case. </p>.<p>Justice S R Krishna Kumar directed that Ningappa should not leave the jurisdiction of the court without prior permission, should mark his attendance before the investigation officer every week and should not speak about the case in the media. </p>.<p>The petition was filed by Ningappa’s wife Chandrakala, arguing that his arrest was illegal since the grounds of arrest were not provided. </p>.Blatantly illegal: BJP on Karnataka govt's decision on quota for minorities under housing schemes.<p>The petitioner also claimed that Ningappa was apprehended on May 31, 2025, from Hosadurga.</p>.<p>However, the arrest was shown only on June 2, 2025. The petition stated that from May 31 to the evening of June 2, no arrest was shown.</p>.<p><strong>CCTV footage</strong></p>.<p>The petitioner submitted CCTV footage to claim that Ningappa was detained at Hosadurga on May 31. </p>.<p>The Lokayukta FIR dated June 2, 2025, says that Ningappa was involved in extortion by blackmailing government officials and leaking advance information about raids. </p>
