During the hearing of a petition by former Mayor of Mysore, Narayana, appearing for the petitioner, senior counsel Ravi Varma Kumar submitted that the Gulbarga Municipal Corporation (GMC) has already confirmed the service of the pourakarmikas, but the same is not extended to other parts of the State.

He submitted that the employees in GMC are getting a salary of Rs 7,900 per month. He said that the confirmation has come following directions of Labour Commission.

However, the State sought more time to discuss the matter with Urban Development Department and the Labour Department. The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice A S Bopanna granted them three weeks time.

The petitioner had moved the High Court seeking directions to prohibit appointment of contract labourers to carry out work of scavengers.
