The High Court of Karnataka on Friday set aside the death sentence awarded by a trial court to serial killer 'Cyanide' Mallika.

During the hearing of an appeal filed by Mallika, a division bench comprising Justices Ravi Malimath and John Michael Cunha opined that there were discrepancies in the investigation of a murder case against the accused. The bench remanded the matter to the trial court.

Mallika has been accused of strangling a woman in Doddballapur. The bench noted that doctor who conducted postmortem on the deceased, had not been cross-examined in the trial court. Mallika is lodged at central prions in Parappana Agrahara.
