A Congress delegation led by Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya on Friday met President Pranab Mukherjee and urged him to give his assent to the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The bill, which provides for reservation to SC/ST contractors while awarding projects up to Rs 50 lakh, was passed by both Karnataka Assembly and Council earlier. Though the state government had sent the bill for President's assent on August 16, 2016, it is still awaiting his assent. The delegation explained the urgency to the President, Anjaneya told reporters here after the meeting.

Rashtrapathi Bhavan officials conveyed the delegation that they have not received the bill so far. Even the delegation members were also not aware where the bill is stuck, he said.
