Karnataka govt drops acquisition of 1,777 acres of land in Devanahalli

While noting that it was important to have industrial initiatives at Devanahalli, the government had dropped the initiative since the lands were fertile and the farmers were dependent on it.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Tuesday that the government had completely dropped the proposal to acquire 1,777 acres of farmers' land at Channarayapatna Hobli in Devanahalli Taluk.

Briefing reporters after a meeting with farmers and activists, Siddaramaiah said:

"We have completely given up the decision to acquire 1,777 acres of farmers' land. Those who voluntarily wish to give their lands can do so. We will acquire those lands at a proper compensation."

While noting that it was important to have industrial initiatives at Devanahalli, which is close to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), the government had dropped the initiative since the lands were fertile and the farmers were dependent on it.
