Karnataka sees 324 Covid cases, death toll rises to 6

Bengaluru: The death toll due to Covid in Karnataka increased to six on Wednesday, with the deaths of a 42-year-old man in Bengaluru and a 65-year-old man in Udupi.

The number of active Covid positive cases in Karnataka stood at 324, as of Wednesday.

While 153 new positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, 39 have recovered or been 'discharged', according to the state health department. Since January this year, a total of 735 cases of Covid have been recorded, including 293 patients who recovered and six who died.

SARI cases

According to the department, both the men had Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI). Both of them, who were admitted to private hospitals, had symptoms of fever, breathlessness, and cough.

The older man also had comorbidities such as hypertension and was on chemotherapy for colon cancer for the past four months. The older man was admitted on May 30 and died on June 2 while the younger man died on May 31, five days after being admitted to the hospital.

Both of them died due to septic shock and a Covid-19 positive status; the older man also had acute kidney injury (AKI).

Over the past 24 hours, a total of 592 Covid tests have been conducted, and the state's positivity rate stood at 25.8 per cent, with a case fatality rate of 1.3 per cent.

As of Wednesday, seven patients are in hospitals across the state while 317 patients are isolating at home. This includes two patients in the ICU in government hospitals and five patients in general beds in government and private hospitals.
