The Kushalnagar bandh call, given by Taluk Horata Kendriya Samithi demanding formation of Kaveri taluk, was total on Saturday.

Shops and business establishments remained closed since morning. Private buses, autorickshaws, and maxicabs did not operate.

All the theatres and hotels too remained closed. Only milk parlours and chemists were open.

In the backdrop of bus operators extending their support to the bandh call, the private schools and colleges had declared a holiday. The attendance in government schools and colleges was thin.

As the hotels remained closed, tourists, who had come from far off places, faced inconvenience.

A few tourists visited Kaveri Nisargadhama, Dubare and Harangi. Nineteen Gram Panchayats in and around Kushalnagar had extended support to the bandh.

SP Rajendra Prasad, who visited Kushalnagar, held talks with the protesters and convinced them to allow the movement of vehicles once in half an hour.

The protesters, led by Taluk Horata Kendriya Samithi president V P Shashidhar, blocked the national highway for more than one hour. As a result, the vehicles remained stranded from toll gate to Koppa.
