KFD spreads to Shikaripur taluk

Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), which was confined to Sagara, Hosanagar, Sorab and Thirthahalli taluks in the district, has spread to Shikaripur taluk.

Confirming this, KFD Field Station Officer Kiran S K told DH that Pune-based National Institute of Virology has confirmed that the monkey which died at Ambaragola in Shikaripur taluk was infected with KFD virus. The KFD vaccination drive has been intensified, he added.

Meanwhile, five more monkeys were found dead in Udupi district on Thursday. Four of the dead monkeys were reported from Karkala taluk.
