Health Minister Shivanand Patil said that Kyasnur Forest Disease (KFD) vaccine manufacturing unit would be established at Sagar in Shivamogga district.

The state government has released Rs 10 crore for the proposed unit. The vaccine will develop immunity against the disease after 60 days of administering it, the minister added.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating Drug Control Divisional Office here on Saturday, Patil said, “Probe is underway to ascertain whether the authorities concerned have neglected in administering the vaccine last year. Two officials who have failed to take precautionary measures have been suspended.”

“H1N1 and other communicable diseases spread during the summer. Some cases have been reported in the state and in Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. Precautionary measures will be taken to prevent the spread of communicable diseases,” he said.

Drug Control Divisional Office, earlier, functioned out of rented premises in the city.
