According to a press release, a 45-year old patient was diagnosed with congenital hemolytic anaemia called hereditary spherocytosis and was admitted with anaemia, jaundice, splenomegaly and gallstones. After adequate pre-operative preparation laparoscopic splenectomy with choleystectomy was performed and a 20 cm long spleen and gall bladder was removed.
The release stated that after the operation, the patient’s anaemia has improved and jaundice has disappeared. Dr Muralidhar, S Kathalagiri, Dr Shivananda Prabhu were the laparoscopic surgeons involved in performing this complex surgery.
