Liquor worth over Rs 1 crore seized in raids

Election officials seized liquor worth Rs one crore across the state on Wednesday.

Jamkhandi tahsildar Chandrashekhar Gali has said that liquor worth Rs 20 lakh, stocked in 1,150 cases was seized for violation of model code of code which in force in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

Meanwhile, Assistant Election Officer Sadashiv Marji said in Gadag that liquor worth Rs 63.43 lakh has been seized at Achamatti Checkpost in Nargund Assembly constituency in Gadag district.A case has been registered at Nargund police station in this regard, he added.

A team of officials of the Excise Department seized 14,783 litres of liquor and three bikes worth Rs 65.80 lakh during a raid and vehicle inspection conducted in various parts of Shivamogga.

A man arrested in this regard has been remanded in judicial custody.
