Farmer leaders from the state said on Saturday that the Kumaraswamy government was not fulfilling its promise of loan waiver and farmers were getting bank notices for recovery of farm loans.

Farmer leaders, who are in the national capital for the Kissan march to draw the government’s attention to the agrarian distress, told reporters that the JD(S)-Congress government made false promises to farmers on loan waiver.

“Despite the chief minister’s announcement that their loans will be waived, farmers are getting loan recovery notices from banks and financial institutions. Farmer suicides continued in the state due to crop loss and for not getting the right prices for their products,” Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha honorary president Chamarasa Malipatil said here.

The government has announced a Rs 40,000-crore crop loan waiver, though the farmers’ loan’s touched Rs 1.17 lakh crore in Karnataka.

He questioned as to why the government was silent on waiving agriculture loans from nationalised banks, he said.
