Mahadayi: State paid Rs 10.84 cr fees to advocates since 2012

 The state government has a fees of Rs 10.84 crore to 12 advocates who reprsented Karnataka before the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal from 2012 to 2016, according to information obtained under the Right To Information (RTI) Act by RTI activist Bhimappa Gadad.

According to the information provided to him by the Water Resources department, the state used the services of 12 advocates and paid them Rs 10,84,43,709 as professional fees, hotel and travel expenses.

Quoting the documents, Gadad said that from 2012 to 2016, Advocate General S Vijay Shankar was paid Rs 6.10 lakh, Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar Rs 30.75 lakh, Advocate General Madhusudhan Naik Rs 1 lakh, senior advocate Fali Nariman Rs 2.60 crore and clerkage charges of 10% of the professional fees (Rs 26 lakh ), senior advocate S S Javali Rs 1.14 crore, advocate Mohan Katarki Rs 2.41 crore, advocate Brijesh Kalappa Rs 67.99 lakh, advocate S C Sharma Rs 41 lakh advocate Anitha Shenoy Rs 1.04 crore, advocate on record Nishanth Patil Rs 82.75 lakh, advocate M B Zirali Rs 80.49 lakh and advocate Kashi Vishveshwar Rs 27.47 lakh. The fees was paid to the advocates from financial year 2012-13 to 2015-16, Gadad stated.
