As the victim was differently abled, the investigating officers initially found it difficult to gather evidence. The team got its breakthrough when the DNA of foetus matched with the DNA of the victim’s brother at the DNA Centre in Bengaluru.

Based on the DNA report, the sexual assault by her brother was proven beyond doubt and police arrested Sridhar on February 9, 2016.

The investigation officer Circle Inspector Srikanth filed a charge sheet against Sridhar in the court. As many as 37 witnesses had deposed before the court.

An attempt was made to save Sridhar with family members levelling allegations against four other suspects. Even the victim’s parents and sisters had submitted contradictory statements during the trial.
