Man killed in bison attack in Sakleshpur

Hethuru, (Hassan dist): A 70-year-old man was killed in a bison (Indian gaur) attack at Kallahalli, under Vanaguru Gram Panchayat in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district, on Sunday evening.

The deceased is Thimmappa, a labourer. He was returning home after work when the bison attacked him. Though he tried to hide near a bush, the bison gored him to death with its horns.

As Thimmappa did not return home, the family members went in search of him on Monday morning. They found his body in a bush and immediately informed the police as well as forest department officials.

The villagers staged a flash protest and said that they would not allow the body to be shifted till the MLA and higher officials visited the spot.

MLA Cement Manju rushed to the spot and offered condolences to the family members. As there would be a delay in shifting the body to the Crawford Hospital in Sakleshpur, he directed the officials to conduct the post-mortem on the spot. He also presented a compensation cheque of Rs 20 lakh to the family members.
