MCC to replace streetlights with LED bulbs

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will replace the existing streetlights with LED bulbs in its jurisdiction shortly.

Speaking at the monthly Council Meeting of the MCC here, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said that the work would be taken up under Smart City Mission. Tender has been floated for the purpose.

When councillors raised the issue of illegal dumping of garbage at Pacchanady landfill site, the Commissioner said that all the gates leading to landfill site would be fixed with CCTV Cameras. "If there is any openings in the compound, then it too will be closed. All the safety measures will be taken to ensure that trucks do not dump garbage illegally at the site."

The meeting also gave administrative approval for the development of many softwares to provide services to the public. A proposal will be submitted to the state government to seek permission for the same.

The agenda stated that the Enterprises Resource Planning (ERP) software will introduce computerisation in collection of advertisement tax, market rent, Town Hall rent, trade licence, touch screen kiosk and mobile application for issuing receipts will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 98.53 Lakh.

Further, it stated that software will be developed for development of mobile dash board, computerisation of payment of property tax and water bill at a cost of Rs 99.12 lakh.

The automated system and ERP software will also be developed for GIS and GPS-based survey module, mobile app and mobile app for receiving grievances from public at an estimated cost of Rs 98.82 lakh. The automisation will also be introduced for GIS-based asset management, digitisation of documents, storage and inventory management and Aadhaar-based attendance.

The meeting also approved to earmark 1.21 acres of land to be distributed as sites (30X40) for members of Koraga community and also to houseless civic workers.

The council also passed a resolution to oppose proposed privatisation of Mangaluru International Airport.

When members raised the isse of sewage flowing in open drains in Mangaluru, MCC Commissioner said that UGD rehabilitation works worth Rs 507 crore is being taken up in the MCC jurisdiction. Once the works are complete, then 90% of sewage water that flows in open drain will be checked.

The laterite manholes constructed 40 years ago have collapsed. The work is being taken up under second phase of ADB-funded project, Amrut scheme, and Smart City Mission as well.
