Shameer, a resident of Shanthiyangady in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district who was arrested on Monday over a pending case and was remanded in judicial custody, filed his nomination as a MEP candidate from Bantwal constituency on Tuesday.

There are three cases against Shameer in Bantwal town, one case each in Bajpe and Pandeshwar and a case in Thalassery police station limits. The details on the same have been submitted by him in the affidavit.

He was absconding without appearing in the court in connection with the damage to the toll plaza at Brahmarakootlu. As he was preparing to file the nomination for the election, the police arrested him on Monday and he was produced before the court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

On Tuesday, on behalf of Shameer, his proposers filed his nomination with the returning officer.
