MIA will cater to 6 million passengers per annum in 2035

Head of Cargo for Adani airports Raja Gupta said that since the capacity utilisation is vacillating between 30% and 31% at MIA, the paramount motive is to collaborate with industry stakeholders to ensure capacity utilisation for international and domestic operations.

Mangaluru: Mangalore International Airport (MIA) Head of Operations Srikanth Tata said the Airport with an annual growth rate of 6-7 per cent will cater to 6 million passengers per annum in 2035 and 18 million passengers in 2070.

“The old airport at Bajpe will be demolished for future expansion, facilitating international operations, and sustaining the integrated new terminal in Kenjar for domestic operations,” Srikanth revealed. He said the cargo capacity for all eight functioning airports operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) will increase from 9,000 metric tons to 12,500 metric tons by 2035 and to 84,000 metric tonnes by 2070.

He was delivering a talk on Mangaluru International Airport’s ole in economic and logistic upliftment during the first session on `Building the Silicon Beach' at CII Mangaluru Infrastructure and Logistics Summit organised at Hotel Vivanta on Thursday.

He also favoured the need for testing laboratories to bolster trade representation and apply duty drawbacks on cargo shipments, which is already present in Bangalore, Kochi, and Kannur airports.
