Minister turns heat on depot managers

Last Updated 26 January 2010, 17:14 IST

The minister told reporters here that he had recently directed all depot managers to ensure that drivers complied with rules. “If the accidents continue, the depot managers will be held responsible,” he said, adding that necessary steps have been taken to streamline the BMTC service.

The minister said that BMTC had decided to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the BBMP to construct bus shelters and bus bays as commuters and bus drivers had complained that they were designed unscientifically.

Currently, bus shelters and bays are being constructed by the BBMP. Ashok said that bus shelters had become advertisement space. “More than one shelters have been constructed at one place to display ads, while there is none in many areas. This needs to be streamlined,” he said.

Ashok also said the BMTC would remove all those unnecessary bus shelters and construct new ones wherever they are required.
