Miscreants dupe medical seat aspirants with fake NRI sponsorship documents

Bengaluru: Medical seat aspirants, in an act of desperation, are falling prey to miscreants who are promising them seats under the NRI quota using fake sponsorship documents. 

In the latest case, a female student was caught after she furnished fake documents related to a sponsor from Australia. Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) officials got suspicious about her documentation, and after a preliminary investigation, the girl confessed to getting the documents created by paying Rs 75,000 to someone residing in Nelamangala.

The aspirant had reportedly paid Rs 5,000 in advance. 

Following the details provided by the student, the KEA has registered an FIR against a man named Raghu, a resident of Nelamangala. “We got suspicious after seeing the document pertaining to the Australian government. 

There was no question of ignoring the case, amd we immediately referred the student to the Executive Director who decided to file a police complaint after inquiring about the student,” said a KEA official. 

The Australian emblem, the seal and signature of the Consulate General of India in Sydney on the documents that the student produced were created using computer graphics. Interestingly, the student’s father told the KEA authorities that he did not know the NRI -- the Australian resident -- sponsor whose name was on the documents. 

“It is tough for us to identify fake documents, because  we have to send them to the concerned embassies to get them authenticated. But when we sent over 14 such documents to the embassies there was no response,” the official added.
