MLA convenes meeting to broker peace between MRPL and contractors

Following complaints that Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) was neither awarding works to local contractors nor hiring local residents on a contract basis, Moodbidri-Mulki MLA Umanath Kotian convened a meeting of MRPL officials and contractors on MRPL premises on Wednesday.

The MLA, after listening to both MRPL officials and contractors, said priority should be given to filling up 75% vacant posts with local candidates.

Local contractors should be given priority while awarding contracts, he stressed and added that the final decision on the issue will be taken in a meeting convened by the deputy commissioner
soon.

MRPL general manager Krishna Hegde, Chelyaru Gram Panchayat former president Pushparaj Shetty, Chelyaru MRPL rehabilitation colony former president Gangadhar Poojary, Contractors’ Association president Suresh Babu, former president Santosh Kumar Poonja, among others, were present at the meeting.
