<p>The proposal of the Bangalore division of the South Western Railways (SWR) to terminate the Shatabdi Express train - running between Mysore and Chennai six days a week - in Bangalore has been dropped. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The Mysore division of SWR and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Mysore zone, came out with strong reasons to continue running the train till Mysore. <br /><br />The plan was to introduce one more Shatabdi train from Bangalore to Chennai. However, once the Mysore division came to know of the proposal, it came out with facts and figures as to why the train should continue to run between Mysore and Chennai.<br /><br />“A large number of passengers (nearly 280), most of them from IT companies, travel from Mysore to Bangalore regularly in Shatabdi. On holidays, the number goes up. The capacity of Shatabdi is 546 and nearly 200 passengers travel in the train from Mysore to Chennai regularly,” senior divisional commercial manager Anup Dayanand Sadhu told Deccan Herald.<br /><br />This proposal to terminate the Shatabdi train in Bangalore came up before the Indian Railway Time Table Conference held in December/January in Bangalore.<br /><br />The meeting lasts for three to four days and the chief passenger transport managers of all zones in the country participate in the meeting. The proposals given by the various zones and even MPs and MLAs are discussed there, said Sadhu.<br /><br /> The proposal by the Mysore division that Shatabdi should not be terminated in Bangalore was also discussed. A commercial justification was given. Once they were convinced, the proposal to terminate the train in Bangalore was dropped, he said.<br /><br />“In the recent Railway budget, four new trains were introduced on the Mysore-Chamarajnagar, Mysore-Birur, Mysore-Shravanabelagola and Mysore-Shirdi routes. However, the proposal for an additional train between Mysore and Bangalore was dropped. The reason was it could be introduced in future, once the Mysore-Bangalore track doubling work is completed,” said Sadhu.<br /><br />The outgoing chairperson of CII, Mysore zone, Biswajit Mitra told Deccan Herald that they had written to State Chief Secretary S V Ranganath, expressing their concern about the proposal to terminate Shatabdi in Bangalore. <br /><br />The chief secretary, in turn, wrote to the Railway Board to drop the proposal. <br /></p>
