Political remediation can strengthen democracy, says Sudarshan

Former Legislative Council Chairperson V R Sudarshan, on Sunday, said that the Indian electoral system must be reformed to prevent the weakening of democracy.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Ganiga convention and D Devaraj Urs centenary celebrations at Jyothi Educational Trust in Kolar on Sunday.

The Election Commission should be strengthened to empower the democracy. If the political system is not reformed, the democracy too will not be strengthened, he opined.

Unrest in society
If casteism crosses its boundaries,it can have more demerits than merits. People from each caste should be aware of this, he suggested.

“Of late there is great furore over jobs in the government as well as private sector. The Union government should enact a legislation to provide jobs on the basis of talent and reservation. Women have opportunities in every field. They should not hesitate to involve themselves in any sector,” he advised.

The sub-groups of backward classes must unite and establish harmony to empower themselves.

The government cannot be successful in implementing its laws if it does not have the faith of the citizens.

Urs’ contribution
Devaraj Urs has contributed to the development of the district by providing various facilities to the silk and agriculture industries. The spirit of our leaders who strived hard for the development of the backward classes is our ideal, he Sudarshan opined.

Water scarcity
The problems caused by water scarcity in the district are growing more acute with each passing day. Despite spending a lot of money, the water problem is far from being resolved. Only if water projects like Yettinahole and K C Valley, among others are implemented, can there be a permanent solution to the water problem in the district.
The governments will take initiative to find solutions to citizens’ problems only if
they pressure the governments.

Gownivari Srinivasulu, member of Andhra Pradesh’s Legislative Council, said that it is difficult for people from the backward classes to find opportunities.

Those who do get opportunities are not making the best use of them, he lamented.
R Manoj, State Secretary, Cooperation department, said that parents should closely monitor their children’s activities. It is not true that only those who study in private educational institutions are talented, he opined.

 Students who had obtained highest marks in SSLC and PUC exams were felicitated on the occasion.
