Polio drops for 91,007 children

92 booths in urban and 523 in rural areas for administering drops

Preparations are on for the first round of national pulse polio campaign to be held on January 20 in the district.

Pulse polio is being administered to kids from the newborn up to five years of age in two phases. In the first phase it has been planned to reach a target of 91,007 children.

Polio drops will be administered to children in Chamarajanagar - 28,754, Gundlupet - 17,840, Kollegal - 36,655 and Yalandur taluk -7,756. In all, 615 booths have been opened in the district. It will be 194 in Chamarajanagar, 158 in Gundlupet, 218 in Kollegal and 45 in Yalandur.

There will be 92 booths in town and 523 in rural areas. About 2,460 volunteers have been selected for administering the drops and 127 supervisors have been appointed to monitor the  programme.

It has been planned to cover all the children including those in forests, tribal hamlets, those migrated to city in search of jobs and others. Arrangements have been made for 15 mobile booths and nine transit booths for the purpose.

There is a need for 1,09,212 dose of polio vaccination for the district and department of Health and Family Welfare officials have made necessary arrangements.

While polio drops will be administered in the booths on January 20, volunteers will make a visit to rural areas on the second and third day and administer drops at the doorstep.
Accordingly, they will be visiting in all 2,21,069 houses including 35,542 in city and 1,85,527 in rural areas.
