Poll code violation: FIR against sports minister

An FIR has been registered against Sports and Youth Empowerment Minister Pramod Madhwaraj on charges of violation of the model code of conduct.

The minister had recently said that Gururaj Poojary, a native of Kundapura who won a silver medal in the men's 56-kg category weighlifting at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, would get a reward of Rs 15 lakh. The minister had also said Poojary would get a group 'B' post in government as per the sports policy drafted a few months back.

Election official Poovitha said that the Sports minister's statement amounted to violation of the model code of conduct.

A case has been registered in the Udupi town police station.
