The State government on Thursday said that students gearing up for final examinations in the State would not be inconvenienced by constant power cuts.
The government, which came under severe attack by members of both Houses, maintained that it had made alternative arrangements to meet the growing energy needs.
Agriculture Minister Umesh Katti, who replied on behalf of Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar told both the Houses that students and farmers would not be subjected to blackouts.
“It is true that we are facing a shortage of 12 MU to 16 MU per day.
To meet the power demand in coming months, an additional 350 MW is being purchased till June 15. The State’s average demand is about 182 MU per day,” he said.
Katti said that the demand for February was 188 MU, while for the month of March it was projected to be 189 MU. The demand was expected to dip a little in April (185 MU) and May (180 MU) months, he added.
