Relief works intensified; CM takes stock

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has directed the Kodagu district administration to identify government lands in the district to rehabilitate the flood victims.

Kumaraswamy, on Wednesday, sought information from Kodagu district incharge Minister Sa Ra Mahesh and Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya about the relief measures in the district. He has also directed the authorities to assess the losses to life and property for disbursal of compensation.

According to the chief minister’s office (CMO), the government is taking steps to recreate important documents that have either been damaged or lost during the floods.

A drone survey will be conducted across the district to help the National Highway Authority of India, Public Works Department and the Panchayat Raj engineering department rebuild the roads.

While KSRTC has been directed to start plying buses in the district, authorities concerned have been asked to construct channels to ensure the smooth flow of the rainwater and prevent disasters. As a temporary measure, protection walls will be built using sandbags to prevent landslides.

To facilitate hot water in relief centres, gas cylinders and gas geysers will be provided for.

Relief materials are being distributed to different parts of the district from five storage centres in more than 100 vehicles.

Citing scarcity of tarpaulin and plastic bags, the government has sought for these materials specifically.
