Rs 89.9 crore ex gratia paid to flood victims: DC

Individual compensation amount worth a total of Rs 89.91 crore has been distributed to the victims in connection with the loss of lives, livestock, houses and valuable property during the natural calamity in Kodagu, said Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy.

Speaking during the Parihara Adalat held at the district administration complex in Madikeri on Tuesday, she said that an amount of Rs 1.37 crore has been distributed towards loss of lives. Further, Rs 28.2 lakh has been disbursed towards loss of cattle and Rs 1.67 crore towards loss of household properties.

A compensation of Rs 15.87 crore has been provided towards damage to houses, Rs 5.10 crore towards damage of temporary houses such as line houses, Rs 48 lakh towards the damage of rented houses and Rs 2.75 crore towards rent allowance, she added.

The people who wished to build houses on their own sites were provided with a compensation of Rs 1.80 crore, said Joy.

An amount of Rs 38.50 crore has been provided as compensation towards crop losses due to floods, Rs 2.97 crore towards crop losses due to landslides and Rs 20.92 crore towards the accumulation of silt in fields.

The compensation has been given from NDRF/SDRF, Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. The details of all beneficiaries have been published on the website of Kodagu district administration https://kodagu.nic.in

In case of objections, the people may submit their pleas at the Parihara Adalat at room number 18 in the assistant commissioner’s office at the district administration complex on May 29.

Hundreds of natural calamity victims registered their names at the adalat on Tuesday as well and requested for compensation towards the loss of houses and crops.
