'Saffronising' education not wrong, says Guv

Governor Vajubhai Vala has defended the “saffronisation” of education in the country. “There is nothing wrong in spreading the messages of Rama, Krishna, the Buddha, Mahaveera and other great personalities. Such education helps in imparting values to children.

An attempt at saffronising education was made in the past; it will be continued in the present and in the future, too,” he said while speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of Vivekananda PU and degree colleges in Puttur on Wednesday.

He said all religions were treated equally in India.
Value-based education

“Leaders of every religion have taught us life values. Opposing saffronisation is asking people to not remember those great personalities. By dropping such issues, we will not be able to impart value-based education to children,” he said.

There are several religions in the country and all of them need to be honoured, he said.
“All have the right to observe their religious practices. Why should we oppose when Hindus refer to the preachings of great personalities?” he asked.
