Wednesday saw two separate Mahadayi protests happening close to each other in Nargund, Gadag district.

While one was a BJP sponsored bundh, the other was a  Mahadayi Horata Samanvaya Samiti public meeting.

To commemorate the 903rd day of the Mahadayi struggle on Wednesday, the Malaprabha Achcut region farmers have decided to meet under the leadership of state Raitha Sene president Veeresha Sobaradamatha.

Over 150 farmers of four districts and nine taluks have planned to meet under the auspices of the Mahadayi Horata Samanvaya Samiti.

Farmers from the districts are arriving at the dharna venue since morning.

"At this meeting, we will chalk out plans for the further struggle over the Mahadayi issue. There is no connection between the bandh called by the BJP and our meeting. We are not against anyone. Our concern is Mahadayi water dispute only," clarified Veeresha Sobaradamatha.

BJP bandh call

While the Mahadayi Samiti's meeting is in progress, there is a BJP Raitha Morcha public meeting in progress by the Hubballi-Vijayapura highway over the same Mahadayi water sharing issue.

The BJP workers have planned a procession this afternoon.

Tight police security has been deployed in Nargund town.
