Samiti calls meet on separate statehood issues

Letters to seers, leaders to come only if they are in favour of separate statehood

Uttara Karnataka Horata Samiti and Uttara Karnataka Raitha Sangha, that are demanding separate statehood for North Karnataka region, have decided to write letters to all leaders, politicians, seers, agitators and others in the region to attend a meeting called in Bagalkot on September 23, only if they are in favour of separate statehood.

"Meeting to be held at Charantimath Sabhabhavan at Bagalkot on September 23 at 11:00 am and will decide how many districts should be in the separate state, what should be the capital, how should be the state flag, when the new flag should be hoisted, and what the new state should be named," said Nagesh Golashetti, general secretary of Uttara Karnataka Horata Samjiti .

He told media persons here on Friday, that the future course of the agitation would be decided in the meeting, while there is also a plan to meet the Prime Minister and President of India also.

Bandh call given for separate statehood was a failure, as there were less efforts to take all organisations into confidence. Moreover, people are afraid of raising voice for a separate state. In last two-and-a-half-years, we collected the opinion of 66.32 lakh people in the region, and among them 59.68 lakh people wanted separate people. They have to be organised first, Golashetti claimed.

Panchamashivalingeshwar Swamiji of Nidasishi would grace the occasion, while Bhimappa Gadad would preside over the meeting to be held in Bagalkot. Invitations would be sent to Dr Patil Puttappa, Dr Tontada Siddhalinga Swamiji, retired IAS officer S M Jamadar and others, asking them to come only if they support separate statehood, he explained.

Laxman Bakkayi noted that not useful offices except cane office are being shifted to North Karnataka region. Accountant general's office, KGID office, KPSC, and at least 15 major departments should be shifted to this region, he said

North Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president Shakar Sugate, Uttara Karnataka Raitha Sangha president Basavaraj Karigar, Virupakshappa Kallimani, and others were present.
