<p>Koppal: A shepherd on Friday was allegedly thrashed by the security personnel of Baldota Steel Company while he had taken his sheep to quench their thirst from the Basapura lake, which is located within the factory premises. </p><p>The injured Devappa Halhalli is being treated at district hospital and is said to be out of danger.</p><p>Basapura lake has become a bone of contention between locals and the steel company after the company decided to expand its steel plant near the deputy commissioner’s office at an estimated cost of Rs 54,000 crore. The Baldota company has fenced off the area, including the lake, which is one of the main sources of water for the shepherds and their sheep. </p>.Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and DKS heading to Delhi today.<p>The locals and Koppal Bachao Janandolan Samiti activists have been staging a protest demanding the lake be opened to the public and cattle be allowed to drink water from it. Three days ago, as part of the protest, the members of the Samiti and locals had driven their cattle into the factory premises. This had resulted in the company filing a complaint with the police and nine persons were booked in this regard.</p><p>However, on Friday, Devappa is said to have taken his sheep inside the fenced walls. The security personnel objected to it and started abusing him. They later are said to have assaulted him. The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media.</p><p>The Samithi members, who came to know about the incident, also had an altercation with the security members of the factory. Police intervention brought the situation under control.</p>
