The BJP on Saturday sought an explanation from the Congress on why IIyas, a rowdy sheeter who was killed in Mangaluru, was made the vice president of the party's local unit.
In a statement in Bengaluru, BJP spokesperson and former MLC Ashwathanarayana pointed out that it has been confirmed that the murder of IIyas is the result of a gang-war between two groups. "There is no political will on the part of the state government to curb the activities of goondas, rowdies and anti-social elements. Ilyas was active in the ruling Congress party," the statement said. IIyas was killed a day after Home Minister R Ramalinga Reddy reviewed the law and order situation in Dakshina Kannada. "The BJP would like to ask if the government exists in state or not," Ashwathnarayana stated.
