<p>An 18-month-old child, who was allegedly tortured by her father for being a girl, died on Tuesday night after battling for life for 45 days at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences in Hubli. <br /><br /></p>.<p>On December 20, Rameshwari Sunagar of Mugad village in Dharwad district was admitted to the hospital with multiple burns on her body, allegedly caused by her drunk father Ramesh the previous night.<br /><br />It is said Ramesh had inflicted burns on little Rameshwari with cigarettes and had also dashed her against the floor causing severe injuries to her. Following a complaint by Women and Child Welfare officer B Usha, the Dharwad Rural police arrested Ramesh.<br /><br />With her father in jail and mother unable to arrange for the funeral, the hospital authorities handed over the body to the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation to perform the last rites. The mother may be admitted to a rehab centre.</p>
